Blacksmithing at Audubon Acres
Presented by Refining Fire Forge
Step into the glow of the coal forge and discover the ancient craft of blacksmithing with Refining Fire Forge at Audubon Acres. This hands-on class introduces young makers to the fundamentals of working hot metal in a safe, engaging environment.
The program begins with a required safety talk, followed by a demonstration on how a traditional coal forge is started.
Participants will have the chance to help turn the forge handle and see how fire is brought to life. As the forge heats, the blacksmith will explain what blacksmithing is, how it was used historically, and demonstrate basic forging techniques.
After the demonstration, each child will have the opportunity to create their own mini sword to take home, gaining a true appreciation for craftsmanship, tools, and the power of fire and iron.
